The “Whatever” Principle
Whatever you do, do it from the heart, as something done for the Lord and not for people, knowing that you will receive the reward of an inheritance from the Lord. You serve the Lord Christ (Colossians 3:23-24, CSB).
I love this verse because its promise is limitless. “Whatever you do” doesn’t consist of only things we would consider “spiritual.” Whatever means whatever! It includes …
- Anything you must do — your duties and responsibilities as a spouse, child, student, friend, employee, or employer.
- Anything you choose to do — everything you do in your free time.
- Anything you are gifted to do — your unique talents, gifts, and skills.
- Anything you are commanded by God to do — commandments like loving God and loving others as you love yourself.
- Anything you are called by God to do — the specific daily and divine assignments He’s given you in the different areas of your life.
