Series Inspiration: Over Overwhelmed
For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline (2 Timothy 1:7, NIV).
Ever heard some bad news on an airplane?
One time while on a flight from Chicago to North Carolina, the captain informed us that the landing gear was malfunctioning and we would have to return to Chicago. He told us to prepare for a difficult landing.
As the captain announced our approach and instructed us on how to prepare, I watched the people around me brace themselves for the worst. They held on to the armrests of their seats. They held the hand of the person sitting next to them. Many audibly prayed.
I closed my eyes, my hand in Nick’s, and prayed quietly as well. But soon we were greeted by the sound of rubber hitting the tarmac and we all erupted in spontaneous applause!
I share this story with you because my paralyzing fear of flying had once kept me bound to the island of Australia. I let fear control my life. But because Jesus has calmed my fears, the very thing I once feared has become my vehicle to minister to others in darkness. And I believe the same can be true for you.
While our reality is that we live in a dark world, we can make the decision to surrender to Christ and live undaunted through the power of the Holy Spirit!
