When Life Just Doesn’t Make Sense
God, have you forgotten me? Am I being punished? What’s going on because I just don’t get it. Anyone been there? Doubts can start to creep in when we think God isn’t answering our prayers and we have no idea how long the silence will last. In these times, it’s tempting to rely solely on our own logic to try to make sense of it. But if we trust that God’s thoughts are greater, wiser, and far more powerful than ours can ever be, then we must also believe there’s a lot in this life we’re just not going to understand. And even when things don’t make sense to our earthly minds, we can have hope because we can trust the character of God. We all want to be positive, hopeful and joyful, but bad stuff does happen in life. We don’t have to call bad things good when they’re not. But in times of testing, instead of blaming God as the cause of our hurt and frustration, we can improve our situation immediately by shifting our focus to God’s character.
We can have faith-filled hope knowing that we are waiting on the One who is loving, patient, helpful, and understanding, and wants the best for us. Go to him with your questions and concerns, and even your anger if that’s what you’re feeling. God is not calling us to pretend that everything is okay; he is calling us to be truthful with him and then to trust his promises.
